The minutes of the previous meeting were approved.

3. Updates on action points from the previous meeting

MSC fish – to be incorporated into a wider sustainability policy.

4. Updates from Committee members

Nikol reported that she had met with Carolyn, who wants to get more students involved in Waste Wars and is also looking at contamination and food bins in halls.

Dan reported that he had attended the meeting about the Master Plan of building 42, which was interesting, but not much to act upon and feedback on.

5. Discussion

Swap Shop 2.0 – happening on 11th March during Change Your World Week which will be held in the Cube so there will hopefully be a bigger turnout. The Committee discussed having more of a message behind the event. Tori suggested drawing inspiration from her book on sustainable shopping.

Swap Shop in Winchester – waiting to hear back from staff at Winchester. Sam said that if it was to go ahead, physical marketing would probably be better to market the event.

Pop-up Swap Shop – Environmental Rock were interested in doing a swap shop for their event in May. Tori suggested a possible collaboration with other organisations that do similar events.

Change Your World - the Committee discussed several ideas:

  • A booklet on healthy eating on a budget.
  • Special deals and promotion of fair-trade products. Sam suggested easy recipes made from ethical products.
  • Growing food idea, possibly using spare equipment and soil from an event over summer. The Committee decided that this would be done on Wednesday 9th March, from 11:00-14:00.
  • Crunchy Critters idea, with a stand with information to support the activity. The Committee decided to have this on Monday 7th March from 11:00 – 15:00 and that Dan would lead on the project.
  • Something visual to show how much food is wasted.
  • A leaflet on how to be a sustainable student.
  • Sustainability and your degree idea.
  • Show a series of films related to sustainability.
