Our Environment and Sustainability team are also calling volunteers to get involved with the Million Mile Clean, an activity by Surfers Against Sewage to help to clean the UK’s beaches and waterways. They will have volunteers from the Conversation Volunteers society, lending out litter-picking equipment to students and staff who would like to get involved to help clean our waterways. They will be asking that volunteers photograph the litter they have collected and report back with photos and an estimated weight so that we can monitor how much litter has been removed from our local beaches and rivers.

Dr Jake Snaddon and volunteers will be giving you the tools to find and identify different plant and animal species on campus. Using the iNaturalist app, you can take a photo of species found and receive instant identification. Also, any species that you capture on campus will be automatically uploaded to the University of Southampton Bioblitz page, helping us to understand what lives in our local area and understand how we can protect it for the future.

The Hedgehog Friendly Campus team will be talking about how we became a Hedgehog Friendly Campus and talking about how you can make a difference to helping your local hedgehogs also.
