Socialist Students Society: International Workers' Day 2026!

Socialist Students Society
Why is there an international day to celebrate workers? What is it for, and why is it held on 1st May? On Wednesday, Socialist Students will discuss why. Despite being founded to represent working-class interests, the Labour Party has neglected this commitment under Starmer, all the while workers' rights are in retreat across the world. Not only that, we are coming up to the 100th anniversary of the UK's general strike.
As such, it's more important than ever to understand the significance of trade unions, know our rights and celebrate the history of workers and their struggle to make a better world for us!
The discussion will be a roundtable; feel free to voice your thoughts with respect to others' perspectives.
The Organisers
We are Socialist Students Southampton, join us to learn and put into practice socialist ideas so we can: build a political alternative, organise protests, join striking workers on the pickets and discuss how a socialist future could save us from climate change, the cost of living crisis, global conflicts, and endless corporate greed.
