African and Caribbean Society
We are a student run organisation focused on providing our members with opportunities that will develop them into culturally proud and aware, well rounded individuals who feel valued during their time in higher education. Our aim is to unite students from various backgrounds through the celebration of African and Caribbean culture while encouraging them to excel in their academic and career pursuits.
The Committee
All clubs and societies within the Students' Union are run entirely by students. The student committee for African and Caribbean Society this year are:
President
Treasurer
- The Treasurer shall oversee the financing of the Group, set the Group's budget, and maintain the accounts of the Group.
Caribbean Inclusion officer
- The Caribbean Welfare Officer is responsible for ensuring that the Caribbean community within ACS is actively represented, supported, and celebrated. Their main aim is to make sure the “C” in ACS African and Caribbean Society is never overlooked, and that Caribbean students feel included, heard, and valued within the society. This role focuses on promoting the welfare, culture, and interests of Caribbean members by creating safe spaces, encouraging participation, and ensuring Caribbean voices are considered in ACS events, discussions, and decisions. The Caribbean Welfare Officer will work closely with the committee to support members, raise awareness of Caribbean culture, and help organise initiatives or events that reflect and celebrate Caribbean identity. They will also act as a point of contact for Caribbean students who may need support, guidance, or someone to speak to, helping to ensure that this minority group is properly cared for, represented, and included within the wider ACS community.
Vice President
- The Vice President shall assist the President in overseeing how the society is run by assisting and managing club operations of different officers. They should support in the organisation and management of different committee members’ tasks to effectively contribute to the club’s operations.
Welfare Officer
- The Welfare Officer shall provide welfare pursuits for the Group’s Members, and offer academic advice in conjunction with the course representatives of the Students’ Union.
Events Officer
Media Officer
- The Media Officer shall assist the Publicity Officer through the creation of promotion material such as posters, logos and promos.
Sports Officer
- The Sports Secretary shall provide athletic pursuits for the Group’s Members, including the organisation of the intra-mural sports teams and their training.
