Model United Nations

SotonMUN is a society dedicated to those who enjoy discussing politics and international relations, as well as a wide variety of other issues that we as a species face on a day-to-day basis.

When participating in the Model United Nations, you take on the role as a delegate, representing countries and organisations from around the world in a wide range of committee’s, discussing issues that range from environmental problems, to education, to international security and more! As you progress through conferences, you may even have the opportunity chair some of the debates, a coveted position indeed! Not only is Model United Nations an excellent addition to any CV, but also the lessons you learn and the people you meet are truly unique to MUN.

People from all walks of life, thinking in different ways is sure to both challenge and hone your view of the world. Feel free to join at anytime! Find us on Facebook (Search Southampton Model United Nations) for more information. .

Light Opera Society

Performing Arts

We are the Southampton University Light Opera Society. We have a long and established history, having performed light operas and operettas since 1972.Our aim is to put on fun, enjoyable shows and to have an awesome time in the process! Every year, LOpSoc presents two shows: these are generally a combination of musical theatre works and operettas written by Gilbert and Sullivan, the latter of which is performed for a second time at the G&S Festival in Harrogate each August. These classics of British theatre are certain to be energetic, fun-filled extravaganzas. Anybody who wants to get involved in one or both of our shows is very welcome. Our chorus is non-auditioned and we rehearse at 7pm every Tuesday, usually in Building 34/4013 (the large room on the right at the top of the staircase). Our members join from all different courses of the university and come from all different backgrounds, which provides the society with a wide variety of personalities along with a great range of talents. Auditions for principal parts in the first show are usually held at the beginning of the academic year: for the second show, these auditions are usually held in December. We are a very laid-back society: we thoroughly enjoy what we do and we have great fun in the process. So why not come along and try something new? Anyone and everyone is welcome to sign up, join our society and get on-stage!For more information, please find us on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/groups/2205079779/) or visit our website (www.lopsoc.co.uk).
