The University of Southampton’s Students’ Union (SUSU) provides a wide range of exciting commercial outlets that include Catering, Bars, Shop and a Nightclub to our members and guests that support engage with our 21,000 students enhancing their experience at the University.
Working closely with our student leaders and officers the commercial service team are committed to support all of our students groups and members in providing excellent services throughout our facilities.
The Bars team deliver a high quality, varied service across 3 campus venues and sites. They are responsible for the Stags Head, open 7 days a week in term time and 5 days week in vacations it offers a home from home pub feel with the ability to show must major sporting events. Located on Level 4 of the main Students' Union building is our premium student venue, the bridge bar offering a venue just as suitable for evening drinks as a lunchtime meeting. This team also looks after the bars in our club which is open for our own Friday night club nights, Pulse, as well as for various student events. On top of this they also have 4 smaller off site bars in some of our halls of residence. Total bars turnover is currently around £950K.
The Job – Assistant Bars Manager
Within the Bars Department we constantly strive to deliver a high quality, modern department offering a relaxed friendly atmosphere. We are committed to offering the ‘best value for money’ to our members whilst developing a reputation for quality in both delivery and service.
The main purpose of the role is to ensure the Bars Team is operationally ready for the programme planed (staff rotas, stock deliveries, food hygiene regulations and supervision.)
To adopt two specialities within the team from the following list:
- To ensure all licensed venues are kept clean and in good repair with a positive culture on all relevant health and safety procedure
- To ensure stock is well controlled and maintained
- To ensure the correct numbers and quality of staff are recruited and trained throughout all Susu Bars
- To ensure all promotional activity is in place
