Rename Brunei House following the LGBT rights scandal in Brunei

Hi,

I would like to propose renaming Brunei House in Glen Eyre Halls. It could even be renamed to Brunel House to honour the great engineer! Anything but Brunei. Following the scandal of gay sex being punishable by death by stoning and an extreme violation of human rights in Brunei, it is not right for the University to endorse any of it by publicising the name of the country Brunei in any way on campus or in publications. #NoMoreBrunei

Thanks.

Hi there,

Thank you for your submission. I have been lobbying the University Vice-Presidents and Residences in order to try to ensure this happens. I sent a SUSU statement, along with LGBT+ Society's statement and the intial motion from Daniel Harris to request the University to take action on removing the title of the Brunei House. You can see our statement here:

Since, the acting Vice-Chancellor has responded but no change has been made. I am following this up and there will be an update on the SUSU website as soon as possible.

Best wishes,
