Make a permanent space for Pepsi (the sausage dog)
Majority of students and SUSU staff love Pepsi and find him great emotional support and love to see him. Bringing him round the offices can be disruptive and unfair to those who are allergic to dogs. Students should also be able to know where he is and that he is able to be cuddled. Assigning a dedicated corner of the Bridge with a sign and opening hours would be the perfect solution and for everyone to be able to find him.
The recent crushampton shows that there is demand for Pepsi stress relief, it could be an official YAMT activity as a trial. Since the loss of SUSU the cat, SUSU has really been lacking a designated animal for students to come together for and I think Pepsi can easily take on that role.
Responses
Hi,
Thank you for your submission!
As this is a privately owned animal, we are unable to provide this service as it is unfair to the owner to expect this level of commitment. Additionally, due to the Bridge being full during peak hours, we cannot exclude those with dog allergies or phobias from certain areas.
However, SUSU do recognise the benefits of having access to an emotional support animal and/or dog. As such, I would recommend that all of those who are in need of this service to contact the Student Hub via email at studenthub@soton.ac.uk or via live chat here as they have recently invested in licensed emotional support dogs for student and staff use.
I am going to close this submission now. If you have any further questions or thoughts, please feel free to make another submission or email me directly at president@soton.ac.uk
All the best,
Oliver Murray
