Diwali is a Hindu festival, also known as the Festival of Lights. Diya oil lamps are a crucial part of the celebration. The lams are usually made from clay and their flames represent forcing light upon darkness bringing hope and prosperity to all.
During this free workshop by Indian Society, you will paint your own Diya oil lamp to take home. Booking is not required and lamps will be given away on a first-come-first-served basis.
The Organisers

We are a growing society here in Southampton that caters for students of Indian background and we also welcome students of non-Indian background to our family as we look to grow larger each year. We run our society for several reasons, one of the main reasons is to cater for our students who grew up here in the UK, or elsewhere, and showcase our rich tradition and culture through our annual events that they have never experienced before. We look to provide them with a platform to make friends and life-long memories whilst integrating into the Southampton student life and incorporating them into our Indian Society Family. We plan and organise events throughout the year ranging from club nights, chill nights, movie and games nights, charity events and flagship events like our well-known APNA Awards night, collaborating with many of the other university's societies. We look forward to having you join our Indian Society Family and hope you have a memorable academic year with us.
