Now it is your chance to showcase your creative skills by participating in Indian Society's Rangoli Making Competition!

All materials are provided and there will be a prize for the winner or winning team. There is no need to register, simply join before 16:30 and materials will be accessible on a first-come-first-served basis.

Rangoli is an art form that originates from India in which patterns are created on the floor or a tabletop using materials such as powdered lime stone, red ochre, dry rice flour, coloured sand, quartz powder, flower petals, and coloured rocks. Rangolis are usually made during Diwali and other Hindu festivals. Designs are passed from one generation to the next, keeping both the art form and the tradition alive.

The Organisers

Indian Society

We are a growing society here in Southampton that caters for students of Indian background and we also welcome students of non-Indian background to our family as we look to grow larger each year. We run our society for several reasons, one of the main reasons is to cater for our students who grew up here in the UK, or elsewhere, and showcase our rich tradition and culture through our annual events that they have never experienced before. We look to provide them with a platform to make friends and life-long memories whilst integrating into the Southampton student life and incorporating them into our Indian Society Family. We plan and organise events throughout the year ranging from club nights, chill nights, movie and games nights, charity events and flagship events like our well-known APNA Awards night, collaborating with many of the other university's societies. We look forward to having you join our Indian Society Family and hope you have a memorable academic year with us.

SUSU

We are the University of Southampton Students’ Union (also called "SUSU"). We are here to represent the voice of students at every level and ultimately make their university experience unforgettable. Independent from the University, we're run by students, for students!
