Welcome to the first workshop meeting of the Socialist Students Society! On Wednesday, we’ll be reflecting on the biggest change over the summer in UK politics: Andy Burnham replacing Keir Starmer as prime minister. Since taking office in July, Burnham has begun to improve Labour’s standing in the polls and implement some small reforms. However, the momentum that he’s brought into government - the “Burnham bounce” - is already fading.

We want to look at why Burnham’s policies aren’t enough to provide a better future for students and workers, and what put Burnham in this situation. Moreover, what can students do about it? Socialist Students is made up of young voices seeking to make a difference in the world of politics, and that includes organising and working with others in making our voices heard when it matters more than ever.

The discussion will be a roundtable; feel free to voice your thoughts with respect to others' perspectives.
