  1. KS advised committee of those who could not attend: Natalie and Chris send their apologies.
Officer Updates
2. Creative Services Rep
  1. Media groups have received several nominations for national awards.
  2. Elections collaboration between Wessex Scene, SUSUtv went well.
  3. Union Films sold out many showings of the Dead Pool run. Also, they have a 50th anniversary celebration coming up.
  4. Wessex Scene: Working on developing a free news mobile app.
  5. Surge: Working on having a better end-of-year handover. Surge Awards will be 23rd.
3. Performing Arts Rep
  1. Awards: Performing Arts groups have been nominated for several awards. SUSUPA Dance and Brass Band have won several awards and competitions.
  2. PA Review results have been gathered. AGM takes place on 20 April.
  3. PA Ball is on 1st May and SIPAA Conference coming up.
  4. Working on building stronger relationships with the Nuffield Theatre.
4. CI Student Groups
  1. Event booking issues: It has been reported that there seems to be a communication breakdown between student groups and the venues, leading to confusion about the approved timeframes for events.

5. VP DCI
  1. Looking at the induction process for incoming student leaders, and improving support that CI offers for student group handovers.

Media Review
6. Kerry update

Conducted a forum looking at four major areas: volunteer experience, SUSU working relationship, quality, and skills. Reccomendations were as follows:

  1. Look into the practicality of setting up a media committee, and create officer positions that span all of the media groups.
  2. Create a joint media group calendar.
  3. Improve the training that is offered.
  4. Create an umbrella SUSU Media brand that would present all the joint media that SUSU offers.
7. Spring Elections Debrief
  1. Organisation: BPJ said there was a miscommunication about the number of walkie-talkies and power sockets each group would have. Wessex Scene was only given one walkie-talkie, which serves no purpose if they can't communicate with anyone else.
  2. Café studio space: WG thought it worked well, though it would be good to have earlier access. BPJ said it would be good to have a space where they can openly talk out loud to ease communication during the event.
  3. SUSU Communication to media groups: DL thought the event was well communicated to the media groups. There was meant to be a runner between media groups but they didn’t turn up. A runner would be helpful in the future.
Events
8. Celebration Events
  1. EVAs: 6th May (nominations close 18 March). CI award categories include PA, Media, and overall contributor. Make sure all nominations are sent in time.
  2. PA Ball 1st May: PA reworking how the awards are structured so that all PA areas are given an opportunity to be recognized.
  3. Anniversary celebrations are taking place for media groups: Wessex Scene (80), Union Films (50), Surge (40), SUSUtv (10), The Edge (5).
9. Showcase
  1. CI Showcase event will either be at Highfield or combined with a halls music festival.

Vision 20/20
10. Employibility - CC
  1. CC – CI intern has been visiting conferences looking at career paths and employment paths within SUSU. There are loads of skills shortages within the Creative Industries, especially within STEM subjects and engineering.
  2. Working with the academic staff to get signage up in their buildings which highlight opportunities for their students.
  3. Currently seeking to hire a digital producer to translate the information that Maya has gathered into media content.
  4. Creative Café at WSA and the upcoming comms workshop will both be incorporating an employability element.
  5. CC is working to build employability into everything we do throughout the year, not just during career week events.
11. Arts Strategy
  1. Southampton New Arts Complex: The planning committee would like to hear from students what they would like from the new building. VP DCI will be conducting a student consultation at Culture Cafe.
12. Reach
  1. KS - Reaching out to STEM students for CI careers (employability).
  2. CC – CI societies were well represented in voter turnout for student elections.
  3. CC – Student group support survey: CI Zone had the highest level of respondents across the zones. It seems that there are societies that CI is not hearing from.

BPJ pointed out that many groups may have members that are not officially listed as such on the Groups Hub, therefore giving the appearance of low participation from those groups. CI Zone Induction should include how to organise Groups page and membership.
AOB
13. Wessex Scene Committee Proposal
  1. Wessex Scene would like to increase the number of news editors from two to three, and add an investigations editor to work alongside the news team.
  2. KS – Concerned that an increased number of news editors would be excessive.
  3. KS – In order to make this formal, a full list of the desired changes must be documented.

KS – Motion to provisionally approve the proposal to add one news editor and one investigations editor. Unanimously passed.
