Petitions
If there is a change you want to see at SUSU, or you would like SUSU to lobby the University on an issue, you can put forward a petition for other students to sign. Getting lots of signatures on a petition is a great way to demonstrate the strength of feeling behind an issue, which helps put pressure on decision makers.
You can petition the Union:
- To hold a general meeting about an issue, where every student can vote.
- To discuss the issue at a meeting of the Student Council, where the Student Councillors can vote on any suggestions you submit.
- To hold a referendum (called and All Student Vote) about a specific question, where every student can vote.
If you want to find out more about Student Council and All Student Votes, you can read the SUSU Rules on our governance page.
Before you choose what you would like to petition about, get in touch with the Representation Team (via representation@soton.ac.uk) to find out how your petition will work. Your petition will be open for 7 days from the date it goes online, and will require 500 signatures to be taken forward by SUSU or by the Student Council.
