The University of Southampton Students’ Union (SUSU) is one of the leading students’ unions in the country. We represent Southampton’s 23,000 students, helping them make their voices heard locally and nationally on issues like housing, fees, and much more.
We employ 70 full-time staff and up to 250 student staff throughout the year.

Food & Beverage Team Member

The Role
This role will be ideal for someone who is passionate about customer service, and able to deliver it in a way that is appropriate to our student audience. The role will require you to have a strong work ethic as each of our outlets are busy and have their own unique challenges.
Our Food & Beverage (Bars) Team Member role will involve you working flexibly across different areas of our SUSU Food & Beverage service, meaning you will have the opportunity to be cross-trained and develop experience in different areas. We are currently looking specifically for support staff to work across:
- The Stag’s (bar)
- The Bridge (café bar)
- Below Deck (Event bar)
You will work alongside our permanent, core staff and other student staff.
We offer flexible working opportunities with hours to suit you and your studies.
Weekly hours range between 8-16 on average (dependant on your availability).
Social Enterprise
Our popular outlets are a great way to be busy and meet a variety of people – delivering a friendly and personal service to our many regular customers and ensuring that new customers want to return. Working across The Bridge, The Stags and Below Deck provides a busy food and drink service environment from food preparation through to serving alcoholic drinks through to till operation and clearing up.

Retail Assistant (Student Staff)

Our Retail Student Staff role will involve you working flexibly across different areas of our SUSU Social Enterprise service, so you will have the opportunity to be cross-trained and develop experience in different disciplines. We are currently looking specifically for student staff to work across:
- The Shop
- The Locker
You will work alongside our permanent, core staff.
At the heart of our work is a passion for quality and friendly customer service. We offer flexible working opportunities with hours to suit you and your studies.
Weekly hours range between 8-16 on average (dependant on your availability).
Social Enterprise
Working in the SUSU Shop will see you provide a great level of service to our customers in a busy retailing environment: everything from handling and managing stock, replenishing shelves and displays through to working the busy tills and maintaining a clean and organised shop – all with a smile on your face.

Freshers Assistant

Are you someone who thrives in the buzz of exciting events? We're on the lookout for enthusiastic, motivated, and proactive students to join our team as Freshers' Assistants!
As a Freshers' Assistant, you'll play a key role in making our Freshers' period successful. From lifting and shifting as part of event set up, supporting students as they navigate our fairs, to engaging with fellow students promoting what SUSU has to offer, your support will be crucial in ensuring everything runs smoothly.
This role will form a vital part of delivering a variety of events and activities like Bunfight, the Freshers' Fair, and Freshers’ Party. It's not just about lending a hand; it's about being part of the welcoming spirit of SUSU!
We're seeking students who are confident, friendly, and ready to provide top customer service. Strong communication skills and a can-do attitude are a must. If you're up for the challenge, we want to hear from you!
Successful candidates will need to be available to start from the week commencing Monday, September 16, 2024.
You'll need to be able to commit to at least 2 shifts over our fair days (25 – 27th September) and attend an in-person induction at SUSU on May 22nd, followed by a virtual briefing on September 11th.
