Membership Assistant (Advice)

The Role
As a Membership Assistant (Advice) at SUSU, you will join a fast-paced, specialist team working collaboratively to deliver our Advice Centre services. You will play a key role in providing an excellent customer experience by managing the reception service, responding to calls and emails from students seeking support, and operating the triage system for incoming enquiries.
The role involves accurately recording student information on Advice Pro, ensuring Advice Centre policies are followed, and overseeing the smooth and efficient administration of the service. You will also contribute to the delivery of campaigns and support the outreach of our mediation service.Please note that this is a part time role of 27.5 hours per week, with the working hours of 10am-4pm Monday-Friday (in line with service delivery).
About You
The successful candidate will have experience of working in a busy customer-facing environment, with strong communication skills and the ability to respond to a high volume of enquiries in a professional and empathetic manner. They will demonstrate excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and confidence in accurately recording and handling sensitive information. Experience of administrative processes, triage systems, or case management databases would be advantageous. The candidate should also be able to work collaboratively as part of a team, use initiative, and show a clear understanding of the importance of confidentiality, policy compliance, and delivering high-quality support services.

Freshers Assistant

Do you love being a part of high-energy, fun events? We are seeking to recruit motivated, proactive individuals to join our team.
This role will form a vital part of delivering a wide variety of events and activities over the Freshers' period, ranging from the Fairs to club nights, quizzes to crafts and more. It is a fantastic opportunity to welcome new and returning students back to Southampton.
The Freshers' Assistant role will involve supporting the delivery of a range of events over the 2-week Freshers' period. This will include setting up tables, chairs, and gazebos for events, supporting stallholders with arrival and departure, handing out freebies, meeting and greeting students as they arrive or travel through our events.
We are looking for confident applicants that can deliver great customer service with an open, friendly, and approachable attitude. Applicants must have strong communication skills and be able to carry out tasks with enthusiasm and commitment.
There is an element of physical activity required for the majority of shifts available for this role from moving furniture to standing for long periods of time. If you anticipate any difficulties, you are welcome to outline these in your application so there is awareness as part of the recruitment process.
Shifts will primarily be between 12 September 2026 and 27 September 2026.
You’ll need to be able to commit to a minimum of 4 shifts across the 2 week period, and 2 shifts over our fair days (14th, 15th, 18th September) and attend an in-person induction at SUSU on 13th May, followed by a virtual briefing on 7th September.

SUSU (the University of Southampton Students’ Union) is looking for an External Trustee to join our Board of Trustees. Along with the 4 elected Student Trustees and 4 Sabbatical Trustees, our 4 External Trustees form a key part of our governance. You will oversee and support the work of the Chief Executive and Senior Leadership Team at SUSU, ensuring the organisation fulfils its charitable objectives and mission.
