Why vote for me?

The Student Union has a great record for gender equality but I am keen on improving it. At Southampton and within other universities in the UK, female students suffer the legacy of patriarchy and the everyday struggle of gender inequality. Currently the Feminist Society and Sexual Consent Awareness Society are working hard to fight sexual assault at Southampton but we need to get a larger portion of the university involved in this so we can make the University of Southampton one of the safest universities...(click here to read more...)

Questions & Answers Ask me a Question

Why do you think you're fit to run for this position?

To be frank, a woman who cares deeply about making the university safer and fighting gender inequality would be better fit for this role than me. However, I'm tired of female students feeling unsafe at this university and not having the whole student body behind them. It often feels like a significant portion of students at the university don't care about the issues their female peers face and I thought there would be no better way to make people feel more responsible than running in the election to be the first and last male Women's Officer.

What does SUSU mean to you? If you were to define its values in 5 words, what would they be?

How do you plan to consult women on their specific needs that you may not even be aware of?

Having a face to face dialogue with people about their needs would be hard as discussing sensitive issues with a male women's officer may prove a problem for some. Instead it would be more helpful to maintain an online page with an anonymous submission feature with reminders being sent out before any meetings I have to attend. With enough engagement, this page should give me the feedback needed to negotiate on behalf of the women of the university and amplify voices that might not be heard otherwise. I want to make it clear my main priority is to make sure this important position is filled and not to speak over others who want to be heard. If that means standing down and having a by-election to give a stronger candidate the position, I'd be completely up for that.
