Why vote for Szymon Wojcik?
I have participated in sports all of my life, I have swum competitively for over a decade and I believe
participation in sports is very important. Sports teach you many skills and life lessons which are very
valuable and transferrable to your studies and work, that being another perk on top of the well
documented benefits of sport. Extracurricular activities have always been my passion and coming to
university I was no different. I have been an active member of two clubs, the swimming team and the
monte rugby team and tried my hand at many other sports, although not with clubs, such as running,
gym and MMA. These sports and societies led by students were a highlight of my university experience
and shaped me into the person I am today. Being the current Vice-president of the swim team, and its
ex- social sec, I believe I have the experience, dedication, and passion to fulfil the requirements posed
by this job. Participation in many sports and interaction with other club’s committee members has
made me appreciate the different requirements and challenges associated with running each of these
teams.
Being an active member of both athletic union and intramural teams, I love both. I believe that
intramural teams are very valuable to the student body, especially at encouraging sport newcomers
to join the teams. Many of these teams function without funding from the university. I will be
encouraging these teams to apply for funding if they aren’t already and I will be committed to deliver
them the funding they deserve. This is done to recognise and support the continuous, invaluable
efforts of these teams to improve student wellbeing.
However, being a committee member of an athletics union team, I understand the challenges these
teams face both in training but also in administration. I will dedicate myself to maintaining an
environment in which these clubs can thrive as I have done with the swim team. One of my priorities
will be to get another minibus so that teams representing us away don’t have to rely on cars and
multiple drivers. I am also going to push for earlier fixture dates, enabling greater organisation.
I recognise the importance of money in the running of a club hence I will continue to work on the
speed at which grant applications are processed so that you can have your finances in order as soon
as possible.
Most importantly, I want to be your representative and actively stay in touch with you to continue to
improve the union. You know best what your teams and clubs need; and I believe that maintaining a
dialogue between the union and the clubs and their members is crucial in continuing to enhance the
union so that it can give you and your clubs as much as possible. I would like to increase the frequency
of interactions like surveys and other opportunities for the clubs and their members to voice their
opinions to make us the best we can be
