Why vote for Amy Moir?

As VP Activities I would dedicate a large amount of time to pushing for more society publicity and advertisement, including greater use of SUSU's digital screens, which I am aware would be met with a lot of resistance but I would push hard to reduce SUSU's corporate appearance in favour of greater society appreciation, as societies are of course SUSU's greatest asset and deserve to be treated as such. I believe that societies need a dedicated Instagram account, equivalent to the Team Soton sports account, to promote and celebrate their achievements. Also taking inspiration from the structure of the sports clubs, I would invite our societies to run taster sessions over the same one or two days, promoted by SUSU, in both Freshers' and Refreshers' to make joining a society as welcoming and accessible as possible.

To further encourage society accessibility, I would implement the requirement for clarity on every society's Groups Hub page of a preferred contact method, as this changes for every society depending on the committee and it can be challenging to know whether a society will be more responsive to emails, social media, or in many cases Discord. I would also encourage greater clarity regarding society handovers - when running for any committee position students should be aware of whether they are taking up their new position immediately or in the next academic year, as this tends to vary.

One of the most pressing issues with SUSU is that of transparency. When things go wrong, which they inevitably will, I intend to push hard for explanations and apologies from those responsible, which will hopefully go some way to restoring trust and will benefit all parties. I will set time aside for drop-in sessions and would be more than happy to be approached with any issues or complaints.

To provide further support, I would be available for bookable sessions to provide guidance on processes that often cause confusion, especially grant rounds, and the process of fundraising, which as RAG President this year is my area of expertise. I am aware that the process of 'going through RAG' for fundraising activities is very vague and confusing, so I would aim to personally clarify this with any society in need of help, and also push for an easily followable section on the SUSU website.

My final manifesto point is to go some way to restore societies to their rightful prominence.  I would push for Surge TV to be returned to being the official videographers for SUSU events, and for more society run events to be endorsed as official SUSU events if that was what the society wished, to foster a greater feeling of respect for societies. Charity societies I believe also need greater support, so I would suggest the use of the RAG budget as an all-encompassing charity budget as much of the money allocated to RAG cannot be used, so would greatly benefit the valuable social awareness and charitable societies which have been struggling ever since Covid.
