Why vote for Lio Allen?

Thank you for the opportunity to let me put myself forward as VP for Wellbeing and Community. I believe that I would be a good fit for this position as I have been a student at Southampton University for 4 years now.

As you well know, learning is a stressful time for most people. doubly so for those with mental health issues. I've had experiences with this, with the system, and I would like to repay that kindness shown to me.

I have previously worked with SUSU as a helper at our WSA Campus. Students will often come to me for help on where they can attend events- or how to get support from the university on deadlines or well-being matters. I can show them the portals to get the help they need or explain the events we run in detail and make sure they are heard before they continue with their day. Personally, I would like to extend this to make sure that I can further apply myself to the VP position to ensure that every student concern is bought forward and discussed with the university at length to ensure we are always doing what we can to support you.

As I have used well-being services many times as a Student myself- I would really like to find ways to make sure every student here at Southampton knows they can be heard and reach out, especially as we all know it is a big step to ask for help and ensuring that you know that you can ask and not worry about being brushed aside is one of my top priorities.

If you elect me as VP, I promise to find ways to make you always feel included and listened to. While we celebrate history months for both POC and LGBTQ+ students, I would also love to show further that we also see you outside of these months, and continue to propel our values to make sure that no matter the month, you can feel represented by your Student Union.
