Why vote for Joshie Christian?

Hi, I'm Joshie (they/them), a third year student studying mathematics with the Faculty of Social Science.

I've been very active in the faculty this year, kept busy all Semster as School President of Mathematical Sciences and Treasurer of the Maths Society I have been involved in planning and running all the socials and the end-of-year ball! I'm sure many of you know me through the society or from seeing me around the maths student center.

I have also been a student representative member of the SSLC (Student Staff Liaison Committee) in my school for two years now, and I will bring the experience and leadership I have bought to these meetings forward into my faculty-wide role. Your school presidents need leadership that encourages them to communicate with each-other, especially important for those students on joint-hours courses taking modules outside your own school, there is currently a lack of care and feedback opportunities given to you!!

I always make sure that communication and feedback is done kindly and sensibly, and have made it my promise to have as many important conversations as possible in person, as I feel staff tend to ignore many complains by email, but have to face up to issues in the faculty when approached face to face!

I will make sure I am a helpful and accessible point of contact for all our students, especially our first-years, and I will endeavor to bring more peer-support and student buddy scheme to our schools. With the help of some fab buddies we have revolutionised the Maths Buddy scheme and can’t wait to bring this to other schools and departments!
