From my experience of being course representative in the 2nd year and being on committees back in my school years, I have learnt to be attentive to different suggestions and ideas from students about what they would like to see more of in and around their education and how the standards of teaching they receive could be improved. In the case of the music department, the talents and the creative outlooks of each student are attributes that must be attended to, and as course representative, I regularly checked in on students through self made online polls and 1 to 1 conversations to ensure that the university experience is worthwhile for them and caters to the music they want to make and learn about.

Being president of the department would take me to the next level as someone who cares about everybody having a voice or a place in education. Some of the ideas I have as president include: the continuing construction of a common room in the department (to help solidify social and professional relationships between musicians), the improvement of the practice room booking system, introducing new apps and programs to help students with their studies (e.g. score annotating software), seek new composing/songwriting opportunities for students in and around campus and workshops with professionals in the music industry.
