SUSU Senator - Miles Murphy

My name is Miles Murphy and I am running for the role of Senator in the upcoming Autumn Elections. I am a second year physics student who is keen to be involved in the running of the SUSU senate. In my first year, SUSU played a big role in my university experience and now want to volunteer to help continue the positive effect they have on every student's time at Southampton. The main roles of a Senator are to scrutinise the work of the Sabbatical Officers and to vote in senate meetings. I feel I am well prepared to be given these responsibilities as I have had experience of being Head Boy of my sixth form, which allowed me to work alongside a team of prefects to discuss topics and make decisions on how to move forward. I continue to be involved in the university’s cricket club which once again shows my ability to work as part of a team.

If given the opportunity to be a Senator, I would be a reliable, committed member who would hold myself and other people accountable for the decisions made in the Senate. I would also be a transparent figure who keeps the students and other members of SUSU informed on the decision process and represents a wide range of people so their voice is echoed in the Senate. Alongside this, I will be an active member in the SUSU community attending all meetings and being a person you can talk to about anything you need.
