Key Points

  • An engineering student from Sussex
  • Greater support for freshers and better freshers events
  • Improving quality of life as a foundation for our studies
  • Ensuring equal representation for all, making your voices heard
  • Previous experience as head boy and youth mayor

Hello,

I am a first-year student from Sussex, studying engineering, and I have nominated myself for election as a senator, let me outline my vision for Southampton:

A small ‘welcome box’ will be provided for all students, including all the small items that everyone forgets to bring – such as corkboard pins and rubber bands. Freshers events will be better organised with greater capacity and shorter queuing times – how many of us queued for ages just to give up in the end?

A good quality of life outside the lecture hall is the crucial foundation for our studies going forward. To this end, I will ensure that prices around campuses remain fair, sporting and leisure facilities are well maintained, and social events continue to be planned. Mental health support will also be expanded and more widely publicised.

I will continue to facilitate clear and transparent communication between the student union and the student populace – along with ensuring equal representation from all campuses, student halls and ethnicities.

I have previous experience as youth mayor of my town and head boy of my secondary school – along with taking an active part in the Student Union at my sixth form. With the skills I have learnt I hope to make the Southampton a better place to both live and study at.

James
