Key Points

  • Encouraging participation and support
  • Voicing new ideas to promote change
  • Creating positive environments and long term relationships
  • Promoting support for external factors that contribute to university difficulties
  • Encouraging productive relationships between lecturers and peers

My primary objective as department president would be to encourage student participation in initiatives and activities designed to benefit everyone and enhance their university experiences. As an approachable and sociable person, I am able to establish and maintain positive relationships with both my peers and superiors, which means I have skills that will be immensely beneficial in the role of department president.

As part of the 2020 cohort my university experience has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and therefore I have unique understanding of the impact of this to university life and how the wider factors can impact both learning and social interactions between peers and lecturers. I would feel privileged to be able to use my experiences to benefit cohorts of students moving forward; encouraging long-term positive relationships and an overall amazing university experience!

I am an avid listener and understanding the benefit of listening to students and ensuring they feel heard; in this role I would ensure students have the opportunity to be heard and are well supported due to the intensity of this degree. It is imperative that students are provided with these opportunities and have a trusting peer to turn to with any difficulties they may face or simply with ideas and suggestions. I believe my personality has attributes that give me the opportunity to be this peer to other students. In this regard, I would love to use my skills to benefit the department, by acting as a lead representative for midwifery.
