Key Points

  • Ensure sabbatical officer's actions reflect their election promises
  • Vote against anything that goes against SUSU's three core values
  • Make SUSU open, honest & transparent
  • Aim to rebuild some trust in SUSU
  • Use my experience as a course rep as senator

Hi,

I’m Alex, a third year physics student, originally from the Lake District.

If elected as senator, I will strive to ensure that SUSU’s actions reflect the will of the student body. This can only be achieved by lobbying sabbatical officers to ensure that all their election promises come to reality. All of them! It is these promises that you have chosen to be SUSUs policies for this year, and therefore it is only right that they all come to fruition in a sensible timescale. Additionally, SUSU must act openly as well as with honesty and integrity. This transparency is crucial to ensure that the student body is aware of the work of the sabbatical officers and that they are carrying out what they have a mandate to do.

Also, I am not afraid to vote against anything that contravenes SUSU’s core values. SUSU’s sole purpose is to reflect the student body that they represent and in times where the extent that SUSU currently reflects the students is being questioned, it is vital to have senators that have the spine to ensure that SUSU returns to its values to regain the trust of the student body.

My experience as being course rep last year will be integral to my work as senator. This will be transferable from solely representing my year to ensure that the physics department considers the views of the year group, to performing this on a wider scale. The student body has already made their views clear on the direction SUSU should take this year

SUSU can be an organisation loved by students. The sabbatical officers have a mandate to carry out the desires of the students. All is needed is a senate that will hold them to account and ensure their promises become reality. And that would be my aim as senator.
