My name is Amber Currid, and I should be elected as woman’s officer as I can introduce necessary and new innovative ideas that would be valuable to the women of the University of Southampton.

Within the city of Southampton, I have seen, and experienced much of the rife misogyny that exists, though catcalling, perverted comments and actions. Women are unsafe, and not enough is being done to protect our women on and off the university campus. As woman’s officer, I would like to make more resources available for women who may have experienced sexual assault or violence. This including safe spaces, more accessible counselling and therapy services, and giving women the resources to take legal action when taken advantage of. I was also like to implement more ways the school could prevent sexual assault like though basic self defence classes and free rape whistles. These are just a few of my ideas concerning the safety.

I would also like to bring a certain focus toward my BAME, LGBTQ+, disabled, and other minority women within the university. Within much of feminist history, the focus has been on the opinions of white, strait and able bodied women, and actively silencing the voices of other minority women, putting them at the side lines of the movement for women's equality. That is unacceptable within our university, and instead, minority women should be especially considered when discussing such issues of equality. I wish to promote the ideas and needs all women.

I am dedicated to the issue of woman’s equality, and I hope I can be considered for the role of Woman’s officer.
