I have applied for this position because I understand the feeling of wanting to fit in; inevitability this is easier to achieve if you can see others that look like you. Hopefully seeing an older, Asian woman in this public role at the Uni will make you feel somewhat represented. In truth as an Asian person, I do not much appreciate the BAME (Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic) title, I feel that we should be breaking down barriers and segregation, not creating even more boxes to put people in. However, it is a truth that individuals in this group are held back, and receive less opportunity to succeed, as well as carrying the burden of having to be more resilient than their peers; as they have become used to just accepting the status quo. If elected I would look to achieve greater inclusivity for all regardless of which community, you come from. I would encourage people to tell me what they would like to see happen to make them feel more included or involved in Uni's life; I would actively seek out the people necessary to make these changes possible. It is a big ask, expecting to be elected with no previous history, however, if you want a person who has your best interests at heart, is loyal, honest, and will fight tooth and nail to make sure your voice is heard, then place your trust in me. It would be an honor to represent my fellow students.
