2. Review and release previous minutes

 

IC will chase univeristy E&F for results of recylcing trial.

FMI has spoken to Wessex Scene re article on refugees and asylum seekers. More info required.

IC to chase info on sanitary bins in toilets. EH - would be worthwhile to speak to Martin Hiley about the results of the sites survey, which included this question.

Instagram and FB pages underway.

Release/approval not possible, as meeting was not quorate. IB to send round minutes for approval via email.

3. Officer Updates

 

See attached LS (E&E Officer)'s report.

- Feedback on survey discussed.

FMI (E&D Officer)

- FMI to send over her report.

- Video explaining accessibility features on social media will be produced asap.

- Interest from FemSoc in a Disability History Month event. If this is still the case, FMI to confirm with IB, and together approach LiveSoc to see if they would consider a collaboration.

- Thinking about LGBT+ History Month. Would like to feature influential LGBT+ figures and the impact they have had on history, that is not always recognised. EH – can use similar model as BHM.

4. Sustainability Films

 

List of suggested films (see attached) discussed.

Decision to show films through summer for students who will still be here.

Look into aligning with relevant awareness days.

Possibility for double showing during Change Our World Week.

5. Sustainability Webpage

 

Meeting with LS has had to be postponed.

 

Zone ideas to include:

  • Widget for relevant tweets and FB posts
  • Calendar of events
  • What does SUSU do re sustainability?
  • What does the university do re sustainability?
  • What could you do to be more sustainable?
  • Link to YMC
  • Sustainable products/swaps
  • Forum for questions and debates?
  • Promotion of sustainability societies and their events
  • Society spotlights.

6. Air Quality Event

7. BioBlitz

 

BioBlitz is a national campaign that the University has run in previous years, and are looking to do again this academic year. More info here: https://www.southampton.ac.uk/sustainabilityaction/experience/bioblitz.page

They would like to have student involvement in the planning and running of this event, including potentially undergoing training on biological surveys and recording. The date is likely to be after exams in June next year. If you or anyone you know is interested, please let IB know.

ZG has expressed her interest.

8. LGBT+ History Month

 

Meeting with relevant parties to be booked in before Christmas.

Majority of events to be after deadlines on 6th Feb.

Student-led where possible.

Ideas:

Flags on concourse

Open mic night

Invite those doing dissertations on a relevant topic to present.

FMI to potentially take photos at LGBT+ archive to share.

9. Officer Emails

 

IC is awaiting officer email activation.

Once they can get in, officers to set ‘out of office’, saying that the account is only checked monthly (for example) and directing people to more active accounts e.g. facebook.

10. AOB

 

FMI to potentially include info on inclusive language in her video. IB/IC will be able to assist with setting up filming and sending the completed film out to societies.

 

ZG – after offer from university received, a lot of mail/paper was sent out that was quite wasteful. Could potentially be changed to emails, or opt in?

 

ZG – room for more promotion of sustainable options, especially reusable cups and sustainable period products available in the shop.
