My name is Zoe and I’m a third-year biomedical sciences student who has been a part of RAG for two years! I've really enjoyed my time on committee this year, and my love for RAG has grown every day. As the current Internal Engagement Officer, I have worked with various societies this year to help them in their fundraising endeavours, and to help them with promotion to raise as much money as possible. As the internal engagement officer, I have built many good relationships with other committees that I would take with me into a presidency role to create more collaborative fundraising events within the union.
To promote a safe a gradual return to in-person fundraising events, I would work closely with Ella, the new VP Activities, to ensure that all on-campus fundraising is COVID-friendly and in accordance with government guidelines. Being on RAG committee during COVID means that I have had to adapt to online fundraising, but that I am also eager to get back to in-person events that I have experienced within my first year of RAG.
Throughout the year I have worked closely with the Campaigns Officer to recruit various societies to take part in large-scale campaigns, such as Movember and our BLM campaign for StopHateUK. I would like to continue this engagement with other sport and non-sport societies, but on a much larger scale, meaning that everyone from the university can get involved in fundraising!
As the president will now be in charge of the roundups, I would like to repurpose them to be more charity and event directed. I would change the main focus of our round-ups to be about any relevant charities we are currently working with, and to promote any upcoming events that we at RAG can participate in and raise money for- I believe this will let the volunteers become a more integrated part of RAG. I would also like to introduce welfare checks at the end of roundups so that myself and the social sec can help any volunteers/committee with any concerns that they may have- I would be honoured to be the friendly face around campus that people could turn to if they needed it!
I would like to work with our future marketing officer to continue our strong social media presence and I would like to introduce a spotlight feature for any students that are raising money for a cause close to their hearts. Hopefully, this will encourage others to donate more or to even run their own fundraising challenge/event.
Lastly, I would like to raise RAG’s profile by engaging more with WSA, post-graduate students, and student alumni. I would do this by bringing back RAG’s alumni day and to see if they have any suggestions for improvement. I will also do specific post-graduate freshers talks, and target Winchester freshers fayre to ensure that they know who RAG are, and how to get involved.
