The Organisers

Catholic Society

The University of Southampton Catholic Society (Cathsoc) is a vibrant and diverse community of students from a great range of backgrounds and countries. One of our weekly activities is celebrating a Catholic Mass at 6:30pm every Sunday in the Faith and Reflection centre, followed a home-cooked meal. We also meet every Tuesday at 7pm in the Faith and Reflection centre where we get a chance to relax and meet other Catholics, and those interested in the Catholic faith. Here we run a variety of activities, ranging from games nights, to talks from visitors who help us to explore the Catholic faith further. We are based in the Faith and Reflection Centre, so pop in any time and you are sure to find someone! We are an inclusive and welcoming community so everyone is welcome to any of our events, whether you are practicing Catholic, haven’t been to mass for years, or are just interested in finding out about the Catholic faith. Follow us on Instagram or sign up for our free membership for more information!

Circus Society

At circus society we're all about meeting people, getting involved and having fun. Everyone has fun teaching and learning new tricks together, and we highly encourage members to learn and develop performance skills. We cater for a wide range of skill levels, welcoming both complete beginners and experts, and have a range of our own circus equipment so that anyone can join in and learn tricks straight away. We occasionally organize beginners' sessions of various equipment such as juggling, poi, diabolo and unicycling, and our members have a huge variety of skills including staff, flower stick, contact juggling and more! We also have evenings where members get the opportunity to safely use fire equipment. Our experienced performers are available for hire for events both in and out of the university, and the society serves as a platform to advertise our members and their skills. Our practice session for semester 2 are: Mondays: 18:00 - 20:00, The Cube (Open Meet & Play) Thursdays: 16:00 - 18:30, The Cube (Second Open Meet & play)

Enactus Southampton

Enactus Southampton is a student-lead social enterprise and an affiliated society of the University of Southampton Student's Union. Enactus is a global society of 72,000 students creating social enterprises to tackle the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Here at Enactus Southampton we are constantly seeking to create new innovative projects to help tackle social needs. We currently have 3 projects including WonkyBowl & Seeds For Thought this is in addition to our innovations team that generates new prospective project ideas, as well as our marketing and events teams that run our social media channels and fundraising. The principal objective of Enactus Southampton is to provide a channel whereby students can gain experience working in a business environment, while at the same time improving the quality of life and standard of living for communities and individuals in need. With a variety of ways to be involved, this is not a society just for business students, but for those that care about the environment, that want to test their engineering capabilities, that want to help implement change. Being a part of Enactus Southampton sets students apart from their peers, by gaining vital skills that makes them more employable in the future.

Lacrosse (Mixed)

One of the best things you can do when you come to uni is to take up a sport a great way to make friends and experience the fantastic feeling of being part of a team, so why not try something new and make that sport Mixed Lacrosse! You don't need any experience to join, in fact most people have never played before coming to Southampton so you'll be in the same boat as everyone else when you join up (of course experienced players are more than welcome). We are a fun, sociable and relaxed club, if you can't commit much time but still want to come along every so often that's fine. Mixed Lacrosse is a fast paced sport played with both men and women on a team, where you use a stick, to throw a hard rubber ball, about the size of a tennis ball, between players and attempt to get it in the opponent's goal. We train on Tuesday and Friday evenings between 4:00-6:00pm at Wide Lane. We also have two teams, one for experienced players, and one for beginners, that play matches on a Sunday. Wednesday night, like for most AU clubs, is socials night! Our socials provide a regular mix of fantastic events from beer pong tournaments to our class Wednesday night out to fancy dinners and balls and don't forget huge bar crawls with our good friends from Men's and Ladies Lacrosse! There's something for everyone at Mixed Lacrosse, whether you're the ultra competitive sporty type, far more socially minded, or anything in-between. For more information and for details about our taster session we'll be at the Bunfight or you can join our Facebook group now and we'll answer any questions you have. Finally, don't be afraid to join if you've missed the Bunfight or taster session, new recruits are welcome throughout the year. Just contact us using the form below or message our facebook page to let us know you're coming, then simply show up on Tuesday, easy.

Table Tennis

Come down to try out table tennis - it's a great way to meet new people! We welcome everyone, whether it be your first time picking up a racket or if you're a seasoned professional, we'll be sure to have someone for you to play against. You're welcome to bring friends along too, to finally settle who's better at table tennis. We will provide all equipment so make sure not to miss out! We’ve covered big releases, such as an early album stream of Olivia Rodrigo’s GUTS, a private screening for Parasite, and an interview with beabadoobee, right through to local university news like the Share the Sound Festival put on by our Music department, and shows put on by our theatre societies such as Be More Chill and The Trial of Dorian Gray. Whether you study humanities or computer science, we want to hear from you. To write for The Edge, the only criteria is that you’re a University of Southampton student with a love for entertainment – whether that be film, theatre, literature, or even podcasts! No experience is required, and we all started a little messy when we began writing for The Edge, so please don’t let fears about your writing ability put you off.Passion is what we’re interested in, and that will shine through no matter your experience!

If you are looking to join a new sport that you can advance quickly at then you are in the right place! With sessions three times a week, we aim for members to become proficient in Roundnet Spikeball so that they can play with friends or progress to tournaments if they want to give it a go. We also host socials every week in varying locations with unique themes. On top of all of this, membership is cheaper than a pint in Stags! We are looking forward to meeting you and having some games, Stay Spikey!
